Using UsenetWire with Tweaknews

UsenetWire is an intuitive, all-in-one newsreader that provides easy access to Tweaknews. With built-in search, automated repair tools, and access to every newsgroup on the Tweaknews network, UsenetWire provides direct access to articles across the full article retention period.


Getting Started with UsenetWire

Download and Install UsenetWire

Follow our detailed installation instructions.

Launch the Newsreader

After installation, open UsenetWire. When prompted, enter your Tweaknews username and password. These details are sent in your welcome email after account activation.

Set Up Server Access

UsenetWire comes preconfigured for Tweaknews. If you need to add another server:

  • Go to Options > Settings > Backup NNTP

  • Click the Add button
  • Enter the Host of your backup Usenet provider
  • Enable SSL and set the port to 563 (or 443 if needed)
  • Enter the username and password for your backup Usenet provider
  • Set the maximum number of connections based on your plan
  • Click Save

Search and Queue Articles

Use the integrated search bar at the top of the application. Results are organized by relevance and age. Double-click any result to access it.

Monitor Progress

The lower section of the newsreader displays the queue and current activity. Automatic repair and verification tools handle incomplete or damaged articles without user intervention.

Access Newsgroups Directly

For manual browsing:

  • Go to the Newsgroups tab
  • Subscribe to groups of interest
  • Sort by name, activity, or hierarchy

Adjust Preferences

Navigate to Settings to configure:

  • Default article access location
  • Search behavior
  • Connection limits
  • Schedule and automation settings

Security and Privacy

Tweaknews includes SSL access with all plans. Always verify SSL is enabled in your server settings to keep your activity encrypted across Usenet.
