SABnzbd Setup on Linux for Tweaknews
This guide will help you install and set up SABnzbd on a Linux system for use with Tweaknews. Once configured, SABnzbd provides a reliable way to access Usenet securely while making full use of Tweaknews’s long article retention.
Step 1: Install SABnzbd on Linux
The installation method depends on your Linux distribution:
For Debian/Ubuntu-based systems:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install sabnzbdplus
For Fedora:
sudo dnf install sabnzbd
For Arch Linux/Manjaro:
sudo pacman -S sabnzbd
After installation, launch SABnzbd using the command:
sabnzbdplus
It will open in your default Web browser.
Step 2: Choose Language and Begin Setup
When SABnzbd opens in the browser:

Select your preferred language.

Click Start Wizard to begin the configuration process.
Step 3: Add Tweaknews as Your Usenet Server
To enter server information:

If using the Setup Wizard, wait for the server screen.

Otherwise, navigate to Config > Servers and select Add Server.
Input the following:

Server Address:
news.tweaknews.eu
-
Port:
563
for SSL (recommended), or119
for non-SSL -
Username: Your Tweaknews username

Password: Your Tweaknews password

Connections: Up to 30
-
SSL: Check this box if using port 563
Use the Test Server button to verify the settings.
Step 4: Add Indexers (Optional)
If you're using NZB Indexers, you can configure them during setup or later via Config > Indexer. You’ll need the host URL and API key from your Indexer.
Step 5: Configure SABnzbd Preferences
Visit the Config section to fine-tune your experience:

Folders: Specify directories for incoming and completed articles

Scheduling: Manage bandwidth usage based on time of day

Notifications: Enable alerts for article access

Security: Set access credentials and IP restrictions
Step 6: Start Accessing Usenet with Tweaknews
Once setup is complete, SABnzbd is ready to work with your Tweaknews account. Use NZB links manually or connect automated tools via Indexers to begin accessing articles.
