SABnzbd Setup on macOS for Tweaknews

This guide explains how to install and configure SABnzbd on macOS for use with Tweaknews. With the right setup, you can access articles securely, take advantage of high article retention, and automate your Usenet experience using Indexers.


Step 1: Download and Install SABnzbd for macOS

  1. Visit the official SABnzbd website.

  2. Select the macOS version and download the .dmg installer.

  3. Open the .dmg file and drag SABnzbd into your Applications folder.

  4. Launch SABnzbd from Applications. It will open in your default Web browser to begin setup.


Step 2: Choose Language and Start Setup

  1. Choose your preferred language when prompted.

  1. Click Start Wizard to begin the guided setup.

 


Step 3: Add Tweaknews as Your Usenet Server

To enter server information:

  • If you're following the Setup Wizard, it will prompt you to add a server.

  • If not, click Config > Servers and select Add Server.

 

Enter these settings:

  • Server Address: news.tweaknews.eu

  • Port: 563 for SSL (recommended), or 119 for non-SSL

  • Username: Your Tweaknews username

  • Password: Your Tweaknews password

  • Connections: Up to 30

  • SSL: Check this box if using port 563

Use Test Server to verify everything is entered correctly, then continue.

 


Step 4: Add Indexers (Optional)

If you use NZB automation tools, you can add Indexers during this step. You’ll need your Indexer’s API key and host information. This can also be done later under Config > Indexer.


Step 5: Configure SABnzbd Preferences

Fine-tune SABnzbd through the Config section:

  • Folders: Set where incoming and completed articles go

  • Scheduling: Adjust bandwidth use throughout the day

  • Notifications: Configure alerts for completed access

  • Security: Set access restrictions and passwords


Step 6: Start Accessing Usenet with Tweaknews

SABnzbd is now ready to access Usenet through Tweaknews. Use NZB links from your preferred Indexers or manually add them to begin accessing articles.
