SABnzbd Setup Guide for Tweaknews
SABnzbd is a popular newsreader that simplifies access to Usenet by automating many processes. This guide will walk through configuring SABnzbd to work with Tweaknews, so you can take full advantage of fast connections, high article retention, and secure access.
Step 1: Install SABnzbd
Visit the official SABnzbd website and choose the version for your operating system. After installation, launch the application. SABnzbd will open in your default Web browser to complete initial configuration.
Step 2: Language Selection and Setup Wizard
When SABnzbd launches for the first time:
- Select your preferred language.
- Click Start Wizard to begin the setup process.
Step 3: Add Tweaknews Server Details
On the server setup screen, enter the following:
- Launch SABnzbd and wait for the browser interface to appear.
- If prompted by the Setup Wizard, proceed to the server configuration step.
- If the wizard has already been completed, go to Config > Servers and click Add Server.
- Use the following server details:

- Port:
563
for SSL, or119
for non-SSL - Username: Your Tweaknews username
- Password: Your Tweaknews password
- Connections: Up to 30 simultaneous connections
- SSL: Enable if using port 563
- Server Address:
Click Test Server to confirm the connection is successful, then proceed.
Step 4: Configure Optional Indexers
SABnzbd supports NZB automation through Indexers. If you use an Indexer, enter the API key and host details during this step. You can also skip this and add Indexers later from the Config > Indexer section.
Step 5: Additional Configuration
Navigate to the Config section to customize further:
- Folders: Set paths for incoming and completed articles
- Scheduling: Adjust bandwidth limits and queue behavior
- Notifications: Integrate with email or mobile notifications
- Security: Configure access restrictions and password protection
Step 6: Start Accessing Usenet
Once configured, SABnzbd will begin accessing articles from Tweaknews whenever you add an NZB. You can add these manually or via automation tools connected through Indexers.
