GrabIt Setup Guide for Tweaknews

GrabIt is a popular newsreader for accessing Usenet newsgroups. The following guide walks through setting up GrabIt to work with your Tweaknews account.

Step 1: Download GrabIt

  1. Start by downloading the latest version of GrabIt from the official website.
  2. Once installed, launch the application to continue with the setup.

Step 2: Launch GrabIt and Add a Server

  1. Open GrabIt.

  2. Right-click on "My GrabIt" in the left panel.

  3. Choose Add Server.

Step 3: Enter Tweaknews Server Details

  1. In the server settings window, enter the following:
  • Server address: news.tweaknews.eu

  • Port: Use 563 for SSL connections or 119 for non-SSL.

  • Requires a login: Checked

  • Username: Enter your Tweaknews username

  • Password: Enter your Tweaknews password

  1. To use a secure connection, make sure to:
  • Check Encrypted server connection (SSL)

  1. Click OK when done.

Step 4: Configure Connections

Tweaknews allows up to 60 connections. To update this setting:

  1. Right-click the Tweaknews server you just added.

  2. Click Server Properties.

  1. Adjust Max Connections to your preference (up to 60).

Click OK to save.

Step 5: Add Newsgroups

  1. Right-click on your Tweaknews server in the left panel.

  2. Select Update Groups.

  1. After the list loads, select the newsgroups you want to follow.

  2. Click Subscribe.

Step 6: Searching and Accessing Articles

GrabIt does not include a built-in search feature. You’ll need to use a separate NZB Indexer to find what you're looking for, then import those NZB files directly into GrabIt:

  1. Use your preferred NZB Indexer to find articles.

  2. Download your NZB file.

  3. Open GrabIt and go to NZB Import.

  1. Click "Add" and browse to your saved NZB file to import the NZB. Click "Grab" to begin accessing the article.

Tips for Best Results

  • Make sure SSL is enabled for secure access.

  • If you're having trouble connecting, double-check your server address, port, and login credentials.

  • For optimal performance, adjust your number of connections based on your Internet speed.
